چکیده
The effect of adhesive layer thickness on monotonic roll peel strength and fatigue crack-growth kinetics was investigated for electrical steel laminates with bond line values ranging from 7 to 48 ?m. Roll increasing epoxy up 20 In contrast, leveling at higher values. fracture mechanics approach in mode I delivered an equivalent ranking such as testing. However, energy-based analysis much more sensitive than testing, also thicker lines. different failure modes were correlated the plastic deformation zone size developing propagating crack. case a constrained zone, cohesive mainly within ascertained. interfacial interestingly better crack growth resistance deduced weakly or non-constrained zone. Regarding temperature dependency, enhanced obtained 60 °C. At this about 50 °C below maximum loss factor adhesive, smaller 23 testing temperatures slightly above glass transition temperature, propagation rate 10 100 higher.

Fatigue crack detection in thick steel structures with piezoelectric wafer active sensors [7983-101]
This paper presents a set of numerical and experimental results on the use of guided waves for structural health monitoring (SHM) of crack growth during a fatigue test in a thick steel plate used for civil engineering application. The capability of embedded piezoelectric wafer active sensors (PWAS) to perform in situ nondestructive evaluation (NDE) is explored. Numerical simulation and experime...
متن کاملFatigue crack propagation in microcapsule - toughened epoxy
The addition of liquid-filled urea-formaldehyde (UF) microcapsules to an epoxy matrix leads to significant reduction in fatigue crack growth rate and corresponding increase in fatigue life. Mode-I fatigue crack propagation is measured using a tapered doublecantilever beam (TDCB) specimen for a range of microcapsule concentrations and sizes: 0, 5, 10, and 20% by weight and 50, 180, and 460 lm di...

متن کاملSteel Bridge Fatigue Crack Detection with Piezoelectric Wafer Active Sensors
Piezoelectric wafer active sensors (PWAS) are well known for its dual capabilities in structural health monitoring, acting as either actuators or sensors. Due to the variety of deterioration sources and locations of bridge defects, there is currently no single method that can detect and address the potential sources globally. In our research, our use of the PWAS based sensing has the novelty of...
متن کاملCharacterization of a fracture specimen for crack growth in epoxy due to thermal fatigue
Finite element simulations are carried out to characterize a new fracture specimen, consisting of an outer circular epoxy ring bonded to an inner circular invar plate for accelerated thermal fatigue testing. Radial cracks are introduced in the epoxy ring. The growth of these radial cracks is correlated to the applied energy release rate G. We studied the dependence of G on the crack length, the...
